Auch wenn die klassische Marketing-Meute das Thema Second Life gerade so hysterisch runterschreibt, wie sie es vorher hochgeschrieben hat: Das 3D-Internet ist weiter ein Thema. Nur die Frage der technischen Plattform ist noch offen.

Ein neuer, vielversprechender Ansatz kommt aus einer ganz anderen Richtung:

Papervision3D ist eine 3D Rendering Engine für Flash. Und da Flash sich mittlerweile als alles verschlingende Basisplattform durchgesetzt hat, könnte das big werden. Zumal das Projekt OpenSource ist.

    Was mich derzeit wundert: Auf der einen Seite wird 3D-Internet als das ganz große Ding der Zukunft gepriesen, auf der Seite feiert unsere ganze Branche die Wiederentdeckung von Text und Einfachheit als eine Ausprägung des “Web 2.0″. Ich sehe da zumindest in absehbarer Zeit einen Widerspruch, und bislang war ich auch zu faul, um andere Argumente zu suchen. Oder stört mich einfach nur wieder die Absolutheit der Aussagen? Fakt ist, dass IBM weltweit gerade massiv Ressourcen auf 3D-Internet setzt. Holen die womöglich VRML aus der Versenkung?
